Social Services
DBSC employs a Licensed Social Worker (LMSW) who is also a Geriatric Care Manager. She offers extensive social service assistance to residents who come to the Center directly or are referred by other agencies. Her knowledge and expertise in handling complex issues involving such areas as Medicaid, food stamps, Medicare and supplements, EPIC, HEAP, veterans benefits, tax abatement as well the myriad of other assistance programs available to low and moderate income individuals and families. She conducts Care Givers support groups and offers case management services to the homebound elderly as needed. A group of volunteers, Friendly Visitors, consists of seniors who visit three different nursing homes within the area, twice a month. At Christmastime and Easter, gourmet food gift baskets are delivered to the homebound. Appointments are necessary. Please call Edna at (516) 922-1770 ext. 305. Elderly Transportation Service (ETS)
To help keep our members healthy, we provide transportation to seniors who need assistance and do not have their own means of transportation for dental, medical and social service appointments. A suggested donation of $ .50 per mile is requested. Please call Mimi for reservation one week in advance. (516) 922-6422.

Home Care Referral Service
Home Care Referral Service maintains a roster of home health care aids, LPN's, RN's companions and housekeepers. These workers can offer help for recently discharged hospital patients; a respite for caregivers of older people and/or companionship and support for the elderly people who reside within our community and are living at home. Visiting Registered Nurse
Visiting Registered Nurse visits the Center twice weekly and provides blood pressure screenings. She will also answer any general medical questions seniors may have. During the fall we conduct a free flu clinic which is open to all seniors in the community.
Food Shopping Assistance
DBSC is now offering bus service to Oyster Bay Stop and Shop on Wednesdays after lunch. All you need to do is make a reservation for the bus a day in advance and also for lunch. Immediately after lunch, the bus will take you shopping and take you home afterwards. For more information on this service, please phone the Program Office at 516 922-1770.
